WOONGARRA

WOONGARRA

Set along the beachfront at Bargara, this two-storey home is designed to capture expansive ocean views while responding carefully to the hot, humid climate of coastal Queensland.

Elevated living spaces open to sea views, breezes and natural light, while the building envelope is carefully detailed to maintain comfort year-round. Solar access was carefully modelled during the design process to ensure windows are well shaded throughout the seasons, reducing heat gain while maintaining generous daylight. Where fixed shading was not possible, external roller blinds provide additional control.

Constructed using structurally insulated panels (SIPs), the home combines high levels of insulation and airtightness with an energy-efficient ventilation strategy. A balanced energy recovery ventilation (ERV) system continuously supplies filtered fresh air while moderating humidity — a key factor in achieving comfort in Queensland’s subtropical climate. High-performance double-glazed uPVC windows further enhance thermal performance while framing views to the ocean.

Designed to meet Passive House certification and achieving an 8.3-star energy rating, the project demonstrates how high-performance design can deliver a healthy, comfortable coastal home that remains connected to its landscape and climate.
