WOODEND
WOODEND
Located in the cool, high-altitude landscape of Woodend, Victoria, this two-storey home is designed to meet Passive House performance targets while accommodating a secondary dwelling and workshop.
The form responds carefully to climate and orientation. Living spaces face north to capture winter sun, while the building is angled to limit exposure to the harsher east and west sun. A double-volume living area draws daylight deep into the home, allowing solar gain to penetrate the heart of the living spaces and creating a bright, warm interior during the colder months.
Designed with a highly insulated, airtight envelope and balanced ventilation, the project prioritises thermal comfort, energy efficiency and durability — key considerations for the region’s cooler climate.
Subtle design influences reflecting the owners’ South African heritage are embedded within the architectural expression of the home.
The project is being delivered as an owner-builder build, with early support from the SIPs installation team assisting through to lock-up before construction continues under the owner’s management.
